Summary

LAPIS Semiconductor has recently announced the availability of general-purpose microcontrollers that integrate an original 16bit CPU core optimized for home electronics, compact kitchen appliances, and industrial equipment.
The " ML62Q1000series"consists of total 96 models divided into 6 groups, and inherits the low power consumption and noise immunity technologies of LAPIS Semiconductor’s"Tough Low Power" MCU series. In addition to conventional features that have been well-received, new safety functions such as self-diagnosis for detecting internal malfunctions are included to support 14 safety items stipulated under the IEC60730 standard, protecting systems and devices from unexpected problems arising on the MCU side.
The initial phase will consist of sample shipments of 30 models in the ML62Q1200, ML62Q1400 and ML62Q1600 groups offered in a range of package sizes (16- to 64-pin) and memory capacities (16KB to 64KB).
Adapting to environmental changes and the evolving demands of MCUs in applications such as home electronics in rapidly growing regions like China and other Asian regions requires a broad lineup featuring common software assets and board design to support a wide variety of uses.
Also, the continuing proliferation of consumer electronics and home appliances increases the importance of safety, demanding MCUs for providing not only core functionality but ensuring safe system control as well in virtually any situation.

1. Broad lineup
- A total of 96 models will be offered (30 models released this time). The lineup covers nearly all types of home electronics and industrial equipment.
- Program ROM capacities : 10 types (16 to 256KB)
- Packages : 5 types (SSOP,TSSOP,WQFN,QFP,TQFP,0.65mm-pitch packages will also be available)
- Different pin counts : 9 types (16 to 100 pins)
- Robustness : Inherits the features of LAPIS Semiconductor’s ‘Tough’ microcontrollers, such as high noise resistance (±30kV or more through indirect contact discharge – based on LAPIS Semiconductor study) and high temperature operation (105°C).

2. Supports an industry-leading 14 safety items that protect home electronics
- Microcontrollers integrated into various products are primarily used for controlling peripheral circuits. Achieving early detection of peripheral component failure and avoiding risk involves performing periodic fault diagnosis by the MCU.
- However, to prevent possible damage and even injury it is necessary to detect failures of the MCU itself through self-diagnosis.
- The ML62Q1000 series incorporates 3 safety functions that comply with an industry-leading 14 safety items stipulated under IEC60730, the international standard for home electronics – in contrast to the typical 10 or less (LAPIS Semiconductor study). This makes if possible to detect unexpected problems that occur in the microcontroller and safely terminate the device or perform a reset to return to the initial state.
- Self-diagnosis function : Detects internal microcontroller errors through peripheral circuit diagnosis or temperature detection.
- Error detection function : Discovers erroneous data by detecting access to unused ROM areas or errors using the CRC calculation circuit.
- Memory protection function : Prevents erroneous writing to memory or the register.
3. Original low power consumption technology
- In addition to reducing power consumption during operation and standby, the ML62Q1000 series succeeds in reducing MCU startup power consumption at power ON by 10x (2.5mA peak current) over LAPIS Semiconductor’s standard products by utilizing a newly developed regulator circuit. This makes stabilization possible using a smaller power supply capacity, reducing the customer’s system power load.
