Overview

VFDs, developed based on vacuum tube technology, provide a couple of advantages, including excellent visibility by self-luminous, and are being adopted in an increasing number of devices, from audio equipment to home appliances.
VFD drivers are available for a segment type display, character type display and dot matrix type display. These drivers support wide lineup such as anode/grid driver and controller driver.
LAPIS contribute to low cost as well as high reliability, multi-grid function and supporting custom fonts.
Features

We have wide lineup of the drivers which are available for a segment type, character type and dot matrix type display. These drivers support simple driver and RAM embedded controller driver.
LAPIS Semiconductor controller drivers for characters integrate a ROM that generates characters utilizing 5×7 dots, making it possible to develop custom font ROM codes for flexible character-based display.

Unlike conventional 5×7 dot matrix VFDs that turn each grid electrode ON one at a time in order to display characters, LAPIS Semiconductor products enable grid electrodes to be turned ON simultaneously for display of characters extending over multiple grids.
This multi-grid function frees up restrictions on grid divisions, enabling flexible configuration of pattern designs in VFDs.

Applications

VFD driver has been adopted to a variety of applications display panel such as automotive system (car clock, car audio, indicators, climate, odo-trip), industrial equipment and consumer electronics.
